Gasoline and heating oil futures rose after the U.S. currency weakened and Tropical Storm Emily was forecast to strengthen in the Caribbean.
Futures gained as much as 1.3 percent after the dollar dropped versus the euro, raising the appeal of commodities as an investment. The U.S. currency fell as much as 0.2 percent after gaining 0.7 percent earlier. Tropical Storm Emily, approaching the Dominican Republic, may pass Florida’s east coast on Aug. 6, according to an advisory issued by the U.S. National Hurricane Center at 8 a.m. in Miami.
