Soybean futures may open 6 cents to 8 cents a bushel higher on the Chicago Board of Trade on speculation that drier weather may threaten production in the U.S. and China, spurring increased overseas demand for U.S. supplies, Jim Gerlach, the president of A/C Trading Inc.

JULY CHICAGO WHEAT (electronic ok)

(5/15): Wheat settled higher on short covering and technical buying. Kansas City is watching the hot, dry conditions in the Southern Plains and Chicago’s concerned it could spread into the soft red winter growing areas, Brownfield Ag News reported.  First sign of soil stress is being seen in KS, AR and MO with USDA lowering winter wheat conditions in its weekly crop report yesterday afternoon.

JULY SOYBEANS (electronic ok)

(5/15): Soybeans closed higher on technical and commercial buying. Fundamentals remain bullish, especially for old crop, and beans were due for a bounce after the recent losses, Brownfield Ag News reported. News that China plans to take in 5.65 million metric tons of soybeans this month, and 6.00 million metric tons next month also supported the market. Cash soybean bids were firm thanks to slow farmer selling as many concentrate on planting.

JULY and DEC. CORN (electronic ok)

(5/15): Corn ended higher on commercial and technical buying. The near term fundamental outlook is solid and the longer term outlook is moving towards neutral on expectations for continued strong demand, Brownfield Ag News reported. Ahead of the open, South Korea picked up 56,000 tons of U.S. corn for delivery next marketing year. On the weather front, southern areas of the Midwest are on the dry side. The GFS weekly model guidance trended drier in the 16-30 day for the southwestern belt, which will have to be watched.

Tuesday's corn, soybean and wheat markets remain higher.

At mid-session, the July corn futures trade 10 cents higher at $5.93, while the Dec. contract trades 8 3/4 cents higher at $5.14. The July soybean contract is trading 13 1/2 cents higher $14.00, while the Nov. 2012 contract trades 8 cents higher at $13.02 3/4. The July wheat futures are trading 12 1/4 cents higher at $6.10 1/2. The July soymeal futures are trading $8.10 per short ton higher at $411.60 and July soyoil futures trade down $0.08 at $51.22.

Wheat Jumps Most in Six Weeks as Dry Kansas Weather Curbs Yield PDF Print E-mail

Wheat rose the most in more than six weeks on speculation that dry weather will curb yields in Kansas, the biggest U.S. producer of winter varieties.

About 52 percent of the Kansas crop was rated good or excellent as of May 13, down from 60 percent the prior week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report yesterday. Most of the state has received little or no rain in the past week, National Weather Service data show. Before today, the price dropped 5.8 percent this year as favorable weather sped crop development.

JULY CHICAGO WHEAT (electronic ok)

(5/15): Wheat ended mixed on the uneven corn, higher dollar, and technical buying, Brownfield Ag News reported. The fundamentals are bearish and there was no fresh news but after the recent losses, contracts are oversold. For the winter wheat crop, USDA states 72% has headed, compared to 50% a year ago and 46% on average and 60% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, down 3% on the week, while for spring wheat, 94% is planted, compared to 33% a year ago and 64% on average with 68% emerged, compared to 10% a year ago and 32% on average.

JULY SOYBEANS (electronic ok)

(5/15): Soybeans closed sharply lower on fund liquidation and spillover from the outside markets, Brownfield Ag News reported. The dollar was higher with the Dow, gold, and crude oil sharply lower on continued concerns over Europe’s economic health. According to the Ag Department, 46% of soybeans are planted as of Sunday, compared to 17% a year ago and 24% for the five year average, with 16% of the crop emerged, compared to 3% a year ago and 5% on average.
