Soybean futures may open 6 cents to 8 cents a bushel higher on the Chicago Board of Trade on speculation that drier weather may threaten production in the U.S. and China, spurring increased overseas demand for U.S. supplies, Jim Gerlach, the president of A/C Trading Inc.

JULY SOYBEANS (electronic ok)

(5/15): Soybeans closed higher on technical and commercial buying. Fundamentals remain bullish, especially for old crop, and beans were due for a bounce after the recent losses, Brownfield Ag News reported. News that China plans to take in 5.65 million metric tons of soybeans this month, and 6.00 million metric tons next month also supported the market. Cash soybean bids were firm thanks to slow farmer selling as many concentrate on planting.

Soybeans Fall to Six-Week Low on Slowing Global Growth PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Wilson at Bloomberg.com
Tuesday, 15 May 2012 08:29

Soybeans fell to the lowest in more than six weeks on speculation that Europe’s worsening debt crisis and slowing Chinese economy will curb demand for food, feed and fuel made from the oilseed. Corn rose.

The dollar climbed to a three-month high versus the euro, increasing costs for overseas buyers of U.S. grains and reducing investor demand for commodities as a hedge against inflation. JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Citigroup Inc. cut Chinese growth forecasts after government reports last week showed industrial production grew at the slowest pace since 2009 in April.

JULY SOYBEANS (electronic ok)

(5/11): Soybeans ended sharply lower on fund and technical liquidation. The soy complex was pummeled by the funds as record long positions all rushed for the door at once with technical selling by the trend following funds forcing more length out of the markets with beans falling to 1 ½-month lows, analyst Kim Rugel said on Benson Quinn Commodities’ web site. Still, the near term fundamentals remain bullish with unknown destinations buying 139,500 tons of old crop U.S. beans ahead of the open, Brownfield Ag News reported.

Soybeans Rise as U.S. Predicts Plunging Inventory in 2013 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Wilson at Bloomberg.com
Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:28

Soybeans rose the most in two weeks after the U.S. forecast a 31 percent plunge in domestic inventories next year, as drought damage in South America boosts demand for supplies from the Midwest.

Reserves will drop to 145 million bushels (3.94 million metric tons) on Aug. 31, 2013, from an estimated 210 million this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today in a report. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was 172 million bushels. U.S. exports will jump 14 percent to make up for smaller crops in Brazil and Argentina this year and rising global demand, the USDA said.
