JULY SUGAR (electronic version 2:30 am – 1:00 pm CDT)
(5/15): Sugar futures edged higher in thin trade. Thailand, the world's second-biggest sugar exporter, has ended its 2011/12 crushing season and produced a record 10.2 million tonnes of sugar, the Office of Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB) said on Tuesday, adding that might lead to record exports this year. White, or refined, sugar money managers, reduced their net-long positions by 42 percent to 2,624 futures and options, according to NYSE Liffe. That compares with a net-long position of 4,553 contracts a week earlier. White sugar declined 2.2 percent in the period, Bloomberg reported.

JULY COTTON (electronic version 9:00 pm ET – 2:50 pm ET)
(5/15): Cotton closed higher on Tuesday in synch with most other commodities. With 2011-12 export commitments already some 640,000 running bales above the USDA forecast, additional sales to be reported this week and next could assure an increase in the agency's next export projection, says Sharon Johnson, senior cotton analyst with Penson Futures in Atlanta via DTN. The USDA left its export forecast for this season unchanged at 11.4 million statistical 480-pound bales in its May supply-demand estimates after raising it by 400,000 bales in the April report. The next supply-demand report is scheduled June 12.

JULY SUGAR (electronic version 2:30 am – 1:00 pm CDT)
(5/14): Sugar futures edged higher on Monday on commercial buying. Market remains under severe pressure from the ongoing harvest of top producer Brazil's main center-south cane crop, Reuters reported. There is also the prospect that India will be exporting an additional 1.0 million tonnes of sugar in the weeks ahead, Reuters reported. Premiums for white, or refined, sugar are rising in India and Europe, possibly signaling increased demand for the sweetener before the Ramadan, according to Swiss Sugar Brokers. Muslim nations usually stock up on sugar before Ramadan, which starts in July this year.

JULY COTTON (electronic version 9:00 pm ET – 2:50 pm ET)
(5/14): After the close, USDA said 48% the U.S. cotton crop was planted as of May 13 vs. 36% last week and 38% last year. Producers in the Southeast welcomed beneficial rainfall throughout the region during the reporting period, the cotton division of USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service said in a weekly review on Friday, DTN reported. India may limit its cotton exports at 13.5 million bales (of 170 kilos) this marketing year, even though quantitative restrictions were lifted earlier this month, Dow Jones reported, quoting two government officials who didn't want to be named.

JULY SUGAR (electronic version 2:30 am – 1:00 pm CDT)
(5/11): Raw sugar settled weaker Friday, finishing the week lower for the seventh straight time. The main bearish factor continues to be rising supplies from Brazil and India and India’s move to drop all sugar export quotas and permit requirements, thus allowing unfettered Indian sugar exports, CRB Research Team reported. The International Sugar Organization Friday upwardly revised its estimate of the world sugar surplus for 2011-12, to 6.48 million metric tons from the 5.17 million tons it projected in February.

JULY COTTON (electronic version 9:00 pm ET – 2:50 pm ET)
(5/11): Cotton futures closed lower on Friday on technical selling and broad weakness in the commodity sector. Continuing rains on the Texas High Plains and weak overnight prices in China added to the bearish atmosphere, DTN reported. Additional showers and thunderstorms are forecast Sunday and Monday in the Lubbock area. Many dryland areas are expected to have favorable planting moisture.
